Useful guest information to help you enjoy your stay at Monkey Thorn Guest Lodge
Check in / out
Reception
Reception is open daily from 7am till 8pm.
Night / Out of hours reception – when the main lodge building is closed the duty manager can be contacted by the intercom located at the reception entrance.
You can also reach the Duty Manager on 072 436 1911
Guests ID
All guests are required to provide proof of ID when checking in; either by passport, ID book or driving licence. Minors are not required to provide ID but the person who is responsibile for them, must provide ID
Times
Check in from 2pm / check out by 11am
Baggage Store
Luggage storage is available for guests to drop off luggage or leave luggage for collection later.
Checking Out
Please return your room key before checking out and settle any extras that you may have had during your stay.
Please remember to make sure the air conditioning remote, television remote and DSTV remote are left in your room when checking out or you will be charged for them.
Restaurant
Breakfast
Served daily from 7am to 9.30am in the restaurant. We offer a cold buffet and a hot selection cooked to order, for you to enjoy.
Picnic Breakfast
We offer a snack picnic breakfast, for guests who may be checking out early or going out early sightseeing. This must be ordered at reception by 7pm the night before so the breakfast can be delivered to your suite.
Lunch/ Dinner
The restaurant is open daily from midday, 12 noon to 8pm. Closes at 3pm on Sundays for non-resident guests
Room Service
Room service is available at a 10% service charge
Dress Code
Our restaurant is casual and relaxed so there is no formal dress code.
Allergies
Food is prepared in the whole of the kitchen and we cannot guarantee that food will not come into contact with any nuts or anything that will cause an allergic reaction, so if you have allergies you dine at your own risk and the lodge cannot be held liable or responsible for any reaction that may occur.
Food and Drink
Please note that Monkey Thorn Guest Lodge is a boutique lodge and not self-catering so we kindly ask guests to refrain from bring in takeaways, we do not supply cutlery or crockery. There are many local restaurants, all very close that serve food, should you not wish to dine in the lodge restaurant.
We also ask guests to only consume alcohol purchased from the lodge bar on the premises, as we are a licensed establishment and must adhere to the liquor licensing laws, we do not supply wine glasses to the rooms.
Your Safety as our guest
Security
The whole perimeter of the lodge has an electric fence that is alarmed and connected to the security company. Please be careful near the fence as it not only gives a nasty shock but if tampered with it will activate the alarm.
There is CCTV at the main gate by the guard house which monitors entry and exit to the lodge.
Fire
In all suites there is a fire alarm call point and a smoke heat detector, outside each suite there is a fire extinguisher. In the event of discovering a fire press the fire alarm call point and proceed to the fire assembly point which is by the main entrance. An exit route plan to the fire assembly point can be found in each suite by the fire call point.
Smoking
Smoking is prohibited in all suites by law but you are welcome to smoke outside on the suites patio where an ashtray is provided or within the designated smoking areas within the lodge.
Swimming Pool
Pool opens at 8am daily
The pool is armed at night and when reception is closed with security beams for your own safety, so please do not enter the pool area during these times as this will sound the alarm and alert the duty manager and security company. During the Summer the alarm is activated at 8pm and during the Winter at 6pm.Using the pool is done so entirely at your own risk. Minors are the responsibility of their guardians at all times when using the swimming pool.

Rules are there for your safety and enjoyment.
Food and Alcohol
Our lodge is not a self-catering facility, we have a wonderful bar and restaurant for you to enjoy.
Alcohol bought in from outside the lodge is strictly prohibited and will be confiscated until the day of your check out.
Takeaways and other food are not to be bought into the lodge.
Cooking is strictly prohibited in the rooms or in the lodge gardens.
Please do not ask the staff to warm up of any food you have bought into the lodge against our house rules.
We do not provide you with any of the following: Plates, knives, forks, wine glasses etc. for you to eat your own food in our lodge.
Cooking equipment found in your suite will be confiscated until check out.
Consider other Guests
Music played through any portable speakers is not allowed outside of your suite and if played inside your suite it must not be heard from outside the suite.
Early mornings and late nights are to be considered quiet tranquil times.
Please do not play loud music from your car.
We also ask you please keep your voices down when going out early or coming back late.
Smoking
Smoking is prohibited in the rooms and inside the main building and a fine of R1000 is payable.
Swimming Pool
Pool Alarm is set at 6pm till 8am in winter and 8pm till 8am in summer. Swimming is prohibited during these times
Under no circumstance is the creepy crawly/gobbler to be taken out of the pool.
No glasses are allowed in the pool area.
No room towels or VIP gowns to be taken to the pool.
Pool towels are available from reception
Check Out
Check out is at 11am and no later as housekeeping needs to get the room ready for the next guests.
Late check outs will be charged at R200 per hour
General Indemnity
Whilst every care has been taken by Monkey Thorn Guest Lodge to ensure the safety of guests and their possessions whilst enjoying our accommodation, Monkey Thorn Guest Lodge and the owners does not accept any liability in the event that any loss or damage to persons or property is experienced by a guest and their visitors.
Valuables
Monkey Thorn Guest Lodge or the owners does not accept any liability for loss of or damage to any valuables or property belonging to guests or their visitors. It is therefore the sole responsibility of all guests to make arrangements for adequate insurance coverage on all valuable items prior to arrival at Monkey Thorn Guest Lodge. This includes but is not limited to, photographic equipment, laptops or other electronic devices, jewellery, cash and vehicles.
Swimming Pool
Any guest or their visitors using the swimming pool and surrounding area are utilising such facilities entirely at their own risk and that they are fully aware that there are no life saving facilities of any nature provided and therefore indemnify Monkey Thorn Guest Lodge and the owners of this facility in full and shall have no claim of whatsoever nature against Monkey Thorn Guest Lodge and the owners including any claim from any injury/ bodily harm/death and or/loss of property which could arise from the use of this facility.
Loss or Damage to Monkey Thorn Guest House
Should Monkey Thorn Guest Lodge suffer any loss or damage as a result of an act or omission by a guest or visitor of a guest, the guest will remain liable for full reimbursement of such loss or damage incurred and will be billed accordingly.
Right of Admission Reserved
Monkey Thorn Guest Lodge at all times reserves the full right of admission and accepts no liability for any loss or damage that may result from the legal and reasonable exercising of such rights.
Minors
Minors are the sole responsibility of the parents, guardian(s) or the person or persons in whose care they are whilst at Monkey Thorn Guest Lodge or whilst using its facilities.
Cancellation Policy
If cancelling 7 days before arrival, forfeit 100% of the booking total
If cancelling 14 days before arrival, forfeit 100% of the deposit
If cancelling 21 days before arrival, forfeit 50% of the deposit
If cancelling 30 days before arrival, forfeit 25% of the deposit
